Fundraising and Donations
The Operations Committee is always looking for new fundraising ideas to augment our rental income from community use of the Mullis Center (see Facility Rentals). We cherish your ideas and gifts of time and energy to help raise the $65,000 required annually to cover the utilities, cleaning and normal repair costs. We are planning to stain and paint the building this year and that is an added maintenance expense.
We enjoy a very successful Craft and Rummage Sale in our parking lot each August where we rent booth spaces where products may be sold. We also provide a pancake, egg and bacon breakfast on the first Sunday of each month from 9 AM until noon. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children under age 12.
If you have time or talent to donate to Senior Services, please call Bonnie Sliger at 378-2677 or see the Staff Contacts page for their email address. We always need more drivers, reception staff, dining room help or a new class or workshop. Or if you have some specialty to share, just let us know.
Should you wish to make a financial gift, bequest or endowment, please contact our treasurer or other officers on the Operations Committee Members page. During our annual membership appeal in June we ask our community to donate whatever they can afford to help cover the operating cost of the Mullis Center. Individual membership costs only $20 or $30 for a couple and your card makes you eligible for discounts at over 50 local stores and businesses. Everyone is encouraged to become a member and contribute to the Senior Center and its activities.
Bronze memorial plaques may be purchased at $1,500 each and permanently affixed in the sidewalk surrounding the property. You select the name or sentiment to testify to your support for the elders of our island. Contact any officer of the Operations Committee and mail checks to P.O. Box 684, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
